feast of strangers

Philosopher Theodore Zeldin is inviting everyone in London to celebrate his 76th birthday at the Feast of Strangers, tomorrow (that's 22 August) at the Treehouse Gallery, Regent's Park. It's a bit of a School of Life-y feeling event, with a menu of conversation (topics include "How have your priorities changed over the years?" and "How has your background limited or favoured you?") to facilitate interesting dialogue between people who've never met before. Find out more here. Nice little experiments in communicating and connecting. I always like the sound of things like this. Just thought you might like to know.

wanted:

The School of Life has turned itself into an alternative job centre for a month to celebrate the publication of Alain de Botton's latest book, The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work. They've decided to turn the normal method of recruitment on its head. So they are inviting you to write an ad for the job of your dreams, so employers can decide whether they can offer it to you. Fun! This was my effort, rendered in Tasha's obsessively neat handwriting (although she hated using a Sharpie). I'm hoping they'll blu-tack it up in the window of a newsagent or something. And, just in case you're not terminally bored by them yet, here it also is as a Wordle. Wordle: My alternative job ad Although I didn't realise how small that would be.

a nice way to start the day

The Daily Aphorism is something from St Luke's and The School of Life. Each morning I find a new one in my Gmail inbox. Nice brainfood to start the day with, I reckon.
