skateboarding is a big idea

There's something incredibly emotive about this video by Spike Jonze for skate footwear brand, Lakai. It reminds me of the Levi's TV spot from a few years ago, where a man and woman ran through walls, then up a tree before leaping into space. There was something chin-wobblingly brilliant about that, too. Such a powerful visual metaphor. The fact that the skaters in this video are all performing their tricks against real explosions only takes the idea further. They do these great things even as they flinch to protect themselves from the flying debris. It perfectly captures the sense of exhiliration they were after. Sigh...I can feel the tears welling up again. Life is beautiful, isn't it?
